Software Licensing and Activation

Editions

  • Standard Edition

There is a CSP Server edition to meet every need. The edition is indicated by the second letter in the license number:

    Standard ("S") TS8PF-00FFFFFF-311207-12345

The Standard Edition is the right choice for an economical, professional introduction with up to 60 VNPs*. It permits relational planning and data entry. The Standard Edition has two instances: Production and Development.

It is possible to upgrade from this edition.

  • Professional Edition

    Professional ("P") TP8PF-00FFFFFF-000001-54321

The Professional Edition is suited for demanding multidimensional planning applications with up to 250 VNPs*. It permits the use of SAP as upstream system, access to TM1, geodata reporting and automatic exports. The Professional Edition has three instances: Production, the Instance Test required for SAP and planning (Non-Production) and Development.

Both an upgrade to this edition and attractive entry-level packages are available.

  • Enterprise Edition

    Enterprise ("E") TE8PF-00FFFFFF-000001-98765

The Enterprise Edition is intended for large-scale users with complex requirements and unlimited access needs. Access to EXASOL and Essbase is possible. The Enterprise Edition also possesses three instances as standard: Production, Test (Non-Production) and Development. However, these can be extended as required.

* VNP = Virtual Named Ports

The VNPs are calculated from the sum of all the licenses in an edition: Total VNPs = 1 x Named Ports + 2.5 x Concurrent Ports.

For the purposes of this calculation, no distinction is made between CSP Cockpit, CSP Cockpit Consumer, CSP Importer and CSP Mobile.

Instances

CSP Server has three instances. The instance is indicated by the fourth letter in the license number:

  • Production ("P") TP8PF-00FFFFFF-311207-12345

The productive system is present in all three editions.

  • Non-Production ("N") TP8NF-00FFFFFF-000001-54321

The test system is present in the Professional and Enterprise Editions. It contains all the ports used by the Production and Development instances.

  • Development ("D") TP8DF-00FFFFFF-000001-98765

The development system required for a sustainable architecture exists in all three editions.

License Types

Different license types are available for product evaluation, customers and sales partners. The license type is indicated by the fifth letter in the license number:

  • Evaluation License ("E") TS8PE-00FFFFFF-311207-12345

Evaluation licenses can be installed on more than one computer, do not require activation and cease to be valid on a date indicated in the license number. Evaluation licenses are valid for a maximum of 6 weeks.

  • Full License ("F") TS8PF-00FFFFFF-000001-54321

Full licenses for customers can only be installed on a server or on a workstation. They must be activated within 5 days. The licenses then remain valid until they are replaced by a new license for another CSP Server edition or by the license for a new main version of a product.

  • Partner License ("P") TS8PP-00FFFFFF-000001-98765

Partner licenses can be installed on more than one computer. They are linked to the name of the partner company, must be activated within 5 days and have to be regularly reactivated, usually on a quarterly basis during the month following the end of each quarter.

Structure of the License Number

A set of licenses for CSP Server always consists of a main license (= 1 instance) and one or more port licenses. The server license determines the edition, the instance, their activation and their operation. Port licenses determine the number of available server ports.

Server licenses are requested during the installation process and must be entered accordingly at this point. They have the following structure:

+ ----- Product code (T = CSP Server)

| + ----- Edition (S = Standard, P = Professional, E = Enterprise)

| | + ----- Release number (8 = Release 8)

| | | + ----- Instance (P = Production, N = Non-Production, D = Development)

| | | | + ----- License type (E=Evaluation, F=Full, P=Partner)

| | | | |                 + ----- Modules

| | | | |                 |              + ----- Serial number / for evaluation: expiry date

| | | | |                 |              |            + ----- Security hash code

| | | | |                 |              |            |

TS8PE-00FFFFFF-000001-12345

Port licenses for the CSP Server must be added via the CSP Server Manager's License Manager and have the following structure:

+ ----- Product code (CF =CSP Cockpit Full Use, CC = CSP Cockpit Consumer,

| IF = CSP Importer Full Use, MF = CSP Mobile Full Use, SF = SAP Connect Full Use)

| + ----- Release number (8 = Release 8)

| | + ----- Instance (P = Production, N = Non-Production, D = Development)

| | | + ----- License type (C=Concurrent Ports, N=Named Ports)

| | | |                   + ----- Serial number / for evaluation: expiry date

| | | |                   |        + ----- Number of ports (additive if multiple port licenses installed)

| | | |                   |        |            + ----- Security hash code (*)

| | | |                   |        |            |

CC8PC-000003-005-87329

(*) The hash code for port licenses is linked to the server license for the instance. Port licenses can only be imported for the instance that contains the associated server license.

Server Ports

Ports are licensed via the port licenses for the server. Server ports are present as concurrent or as named ports.

  • Concurrent ports form a pool of ports that can be shared and used by a large number of users who do not need permanent access to the system. If a user logs in at CSP Server at a time when all the concurrent ports are occupied then a message to this effect is output and the user is asked to try again later.

  • Named ports are explicitly assigned to a user name. Users with an assigned named port can always log in. The named port is reserved for the user in question. The users must be individually defined in CSP Server even if the Windows integrated security feature is used.

Named and concurrent ports can be used together at a CSP Server, for example with a pool of concurrent ports for occasional users and named ports for users who always need to be able to access the system.

Installing and Uupgrading Software

After initial installation of the software, server licenses are entered and activated using the Product Activator. You can either start the Product Activator immediately after installation or call it subsequently via the Windows Start menu. In the Product Activator, select the required product and click Enter license.

When installing software updates (for example bugfix packages or service releases) it is not necessary to enter the license again. In such cases, you only have to enter the licenses again if you have previously uninstalled the software.

If you change license type, for example in order to switch from an evaluation license to a full license, it is not necessary to reinstall the software. In such cases, you can use the Product Activator to enter then new license number (Change License button).

In all cases, the license number is checked immediately. If the license number is not accepted, make sure that you have entered it correctly.

Partner licenses are only valid within the partner company and are bound to the name of the company. In the setup, this name must correspond exactly to the specifications on the license sheet and there must be no blank spaces before or after the name.

Activating Licenses

Full licenses and partner licenses must be activated within 5 days of installation. Until a license has been activated, a warning is issued on program start-up informing you that the license has to be activated.

Evaluation licenses do not have to be activated since they expire at the date indicated in the license number.

Server licenses are activated by explicitly calling the Product Activator.

The Product Activator displays all the Cubeware product licenses present on the computer together with their current activation status and validity. Activated licenses are indicated as "open".

To activate a license:

  1. Select the product and click Request activation code. This loads the Cubeware activation Web site in which the license is displayed.

  2. Enter your e-mail address and request the activation code. A five-digit activation code is immediately generated and sent to the specified e-mail address.

  3. In the Product Activator, select the product again, click Activate product and enter the five-digit activation code.

  4. The product is now fully activated.

Once they have been activated, full licenses are valid until they are replaced by a new license. Partner licenses must be activated at regular intervals, usually on a quarterly basis during the month following the end of each quarter.

Loading Port Licenses

As soon as the server licenses have been installed and activated, the CSP Server Manager can be started and the port licenses can be added. Until port licenses have been added, CSP Server can only be used by the administrator.

Port licenses for the CSP Server must be added using the License Manager in the CSP Server Manager. This displays the product modules of the CSP Server's server license and lists the port licenses that have already been installed.

To add a new port license, click Add Port License and then save. Port licenses are linked to your main server license via a security hash code and can only be installed on the corresponding instance.

Port licenses are cumulative, i.e. you can order and install further port licenses whenever you want without having to install the server license again.

The product ports for CSP Cockpit, CSP Importer and CSP Mobile must be assigned to individual users in order to enable them to log in at an instance.

The CSP Server's License Manager displays all the port licenses as well as the number of port licenses that have not yet been assigned.

In the User Manager, you can choose Edit User to assign a user to a corresponding product port.

If no further named ports are available, an error message is output.

To obtain a summary of all the users and the products that are assigned to them, sort on the Product column in the user overview.

Porting Server Licenses to Another Computer

Once they have been activated, full licenses are linked to a specific computer ID and cannot therefore be activated on another computer. If you have to port the software and the licenses to another computer, for example because you are replacing the server, please proceed as follows:

  1. Install the software on the new computer and use the Product Activator to enter the licenses.
  2. Transfer your data and repositories to the new computer.
  3. It is not necessary to reinstall the port licenses since this information is stored in the instance's persistent data.
  4. Adapt your Server.config file for use with the new system.
  5. You can now work on the new computer.
  6. You now have five days to contact the Cubeware license management team (lizenz@cubeware.de) and inform them of the old and new computer ID.
  7. Following a check, the server licenses are reset so that they can be reactivated on the new computer (and only on this).
  8. Use the Product Activator as described above to reactivate the software and receive a new activation code.
